WCDP Election Central – Candidate Information

Deborah Ross

US House of Representatives
NC District 02

Deborah Ross - US House of Representatives NC District 02

Candidate Statement:

I grew up in a small town and from a young age my parents instilled in me the belief that with opportunity comes responsibility and that through public service I could help others make a difference. I came to North Carolina for law school at UNC-Chapel Hill and became an active member of the local community.

My public service started in 2002 when I ran for and won a seat in the NC House of Representatives, where I served for more than 10 years. In 2020, I became the first democrat in over a decade to be elected to represent North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional district. In the U.S. House, I serve on the House Committee on the Judiciary, House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, House Ethics Committee, and the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic.

I have used my position on these panels to advocate for reforming our broken immigration system, investing in the clean energy technologies of tomorrow, promoting fair access to the ballot box for all of our citizens, and ensuring that every American can get outstanding, affordable healthcare. We have made some progress, but there is still so much work to be done.

I look forward to continuing the fight for a more just and equitable country for all.
