Candidate Statement:

Life’s greatest milestones should be matched with an accessible and user-friendly Register of Deeds office, oriented towards caring and efficient customer service. I’m Tammy Brunner and I am running to remain the Wake County Register of Deeds because everyone deserves someone in their corner when facing some of life’s major moments–from births, marriage, death and everything in between. I care about the details and getting things done well. As always, I am ready and eager to be of service to the people of Wake County. We have made great strides, improvements and community outreach over the last four years and I cannot wait to continue to serve the many residents of Wake County and to continue working with the best staff in all the land.

Importance of this Race:

The office of Register of Deeds touches people’s lives at the most significant times. Given that, the office should create a warm office culture centered around customer service. Both the citizens of Wake County and the employees of the office need to have trust in their Register of Deeds, and Brunner is committed to earning that trust. She wants to ensure everyone who walks through the door has a positive experience.

Office Responsibilities:

  • The Register of Deeds acts as legal custodian of all land titles and all land transaction documents in Wake County.
  • The Register of Deeds office files and records deeds, deeds of trust, uniform commercial codes (UCCs), and corporations.
  • The Office handles assumed names, military records, and other legal papers.
  • The Office also registers delayed birth records and issues marriage licenses, and administers the oath to notaries public.
  • The Register of Deeds has the responsibility of indexing and cross indexing all documents filed.
