WCDP Election Central – Candidate Information

Kevin Boxberger

NC District Court Judge
District 10D Seat 03

Kevin Boxberger - NC District Court Judge District 10D Seat 03 (Unexpired)

Candidate Statement:

Governor Cooper appointed me to the Wake County District Court bench in May 2024. However, pursuant to a 2021 amendment, I must run in November to keep my seat.

Before my appointment, I practiced criminal and juvenile law in Wake County, handling cases ranging from serious felonies to minor misdemeanors. I have extensive trial experience and have been recognized as a SuperLawyer, Rising Star and NC Business Legal Elite. I have also served as a Regional Defender for North Carolina Indigent Defense Services wherein I oversaw the court appointed system across seven counties in North Carolina. My dedication to public service began in the United States Air Force, where I served for six years, including one tour in Iraq. I continued my commitment by serving as a firefighter for the City of Raleigh. As a practitioner, I joined the court-appointed list to represent those unable to afford a lawyer. I offer a blend of legal acumen, extensive experience, and a commitment to public service, making me well-suited to continue serving on the bench. I also have a culturally diverse background having been raised by my father and Hispanic stepmother and having three bi-racial children, fostering a diverse perspective and deep cultural appreciation.

Importance of this Race:

Republicans have been packing our judicial system for years and trampling on individual rights and fair application of justice. We need to elect good, strong, and fair-minded Democrats to the Superior Courts to protect our civil and individual rights. Boxberger has the experience and commitment to the rule of law needed, as well as a dedication to public service and justice for all North Carolinians.

Office Responsibilities:

  • North Carolina District Courts hear cases involving civil, criminal, juvenile, and magistrate matters.
  • District Courts are divided into 43 districts across the state and sit in the county seat of each county.
  • They may also preside in certain other cities and towns specifically authorized by the General Assembly and are on the front line of justice for the citizens of NC.
