WCDP Election Central – Candidate Information
Ed Eldred
NC Court of Appeals
Judge Seat 14
Candidate Statement:
I have practiced appellate law my entire career. I clerked at the Court of Appeals for Judge Linda Stephens and Chief Judge John Martin and have since represented about 300 people on appeal in a variety of practice areas, but mostly in appointed criminal and parental rights cases. I’ve argued in front of both of our appellate courts, and I read the Court of Appeals’ opinions when they come out every other Tuesday.
The other focus of my practice has been parent-representation in the DSS trial courts. I’ve advocated for hundreds of people fighting to protect their families, and I’m a board-certified specialist in Child Welfare Law.
I grew up in North Carolina, and my wife and I raised our daughter here. I graduated from UNC-CH with a degree in English and History, and I graduated from the UNC School of Law with honors.
I’ve been standing tall and fighting for North Carolinians for years, and I want to continue that work in the Court of Appeals. I have unparalleled real-world experience with the kinds of cases most often before the Court. I’m looking forward to putting that experience to use by serving North Carolina on the Court of Appeals.
Importance of this Race:
The North Carolina Court of Appeals is currently dominated by Republicans by an 11 to 4 margin. If the opponent of Ed Eldred wins, an even more Republican-dominated Appeals Court will grip our state’s higher court system. To move forward and make progress in North Carolina, we need to elect judges like Ed Eldred to our courts.
Office Responsibilities:
- The NC Court of Appeals reviews the proceedings of trial courts for errors of law or legal procedure.
