2007 Democracy Awards Luncheon and Workshops
Common Cause North Carolina invites you to join us on November 17th as we celebrate our democracy. The day begins with two great workshops- one dealing with young voter views of our democracy and another looking at the role of money in politics. An awards luncheon with keynote speaker Congressman Walter Jones, Jr. will follow.
*Feature workshop- SHOULD NC ALLOW PUBLIC FINANCING FOR LOCAL ELECTIONS?
Local campaigns are becoming more costly and less competitive. Common Cause is leading an effort to promote local public finance programs as an alternative to the current system. We’ve been analyzing trends in City Council and mayoral campaign finance reports from 2001 to the present in 7 NC cities. Join us as we present our findings and discuss local public financing programs. Panelists Mary-Ann Baldwin, Mark Kleinschimdt, Courtney Crowder, and Perry Woods weigh in on the topic.
