Neighbors in the 16th Senate District,

I have dedicated my entire career to serving the public and building stronger communities. As your state Senator, I will stand up to powerful interests to strengthen our schools, create good jobs, reform our health care system, and enhance our communities.

I grew up in the Triangle and have lived in Raleigh for the past dozen years. My wife Anna, also from North Carolina, and I love our community and state, and we want it to remain a special place for our three children as they grow up.

As Attorney General Roy Cooper’s top consumer lawyer, I have devoted the past seven years to taking on scam artists and ensuring we all get a fair shake from corporations. I have been the Attorney General’s point person in the fight against identity theft, telemarketing abuses, and predatory lending, helping him to make North Carolina a national leader in protecting its residents. Prior to my work at the Department of Justice, I worked with Senator John Edwards for four years, serving as a top aide.

After graduating from Harvard Law School, I worked locally with the nonprofit Self-Help Credit Union redeveloping single family homes and helping to transform a dilapidated historic hospital into a small business incubator. For two years after college, I taught high school English and economics in Zimbabwe.

I am a proven, passionate advocate, and I will dedicate myself in the state Senate to improving the lives of the people of our district. Please join our campaign to elect forward-thinking and effective leadership. We ask for your help now and your vote on May 6, 2008.
